God Better Than We Think

God Better Than We Think

He Is So Much Better Than We Think

Welcome, friends, to today’s reflection from the Daily Radio Bible. As we journey through God’s Word together, we’re invited to see a God who is far greater and far better than we often dare to imagine. Today’s devotion reminds us that our God is not confined by our limited perspectives or scaled-down versions of goodness. Let’s lean in and hear what He has to say.

God’s Promise to Abraham

In Genesis, God comes to Abraham with promises so grand they seem almost unbelievable. He tells Abraham he will be the father of many nations, that all the people of the world will be blessed through him, and that the land of Canaan will be his inheritance. These promises were so extraordinary that Abraham and Sarah struggled to believe them. Instead, they conceived a plan that felt more within reach: a surrogate son. They tried to fulfill God’s promise through their own efforts, crafting a version of the future they thought was possible.

How often do we do the same? We take God’s boundless promises and shrink them down to something manageable, something our limited minds can comprehend. We push these scaled-down versions forward, thinking they’re the best we can hope for. But, friends, God’s goodness is not limited by what we can imagine.

Jesus’ Invitation to Imagine Better

Luke’s Gospel shows us the incredible goodness of God through the words and actions of Jesus. In one of his most powerful sermons, Jesus commands his followers to live in ways that reflect God’s boundless love.

“Love your enemies,” He says.

“Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. Do to others as you would have them do to you.”

These are not easy commands, but they reveal a profound truth: God is inviting us to act as His children—to love as He loves, to bless as He blesses, to be kind and compassionate as He is.

Jesus reminds us that God is kind even to the unthankful and the wicked. He is compassionate beyond our understanding. And yet, how often do we qualify God’s goodness, imagining Him as less kind, less loving, less generous than He truly is?

Seeing God as He Truly Is

Far too often, we paint God’s face with the brush of our own anxieties and fears. But Jesus invites us to see the Father for who He really is: infinitely kind, compassionate, and good. When we dare to believe in the greatness of His love, something shifts within us.

We begin to love our enemies.

We bless those who curse us.

We do unto others as we would have them do unto us.

This isn’t about achieving a moral high ground; it’s about living out the reality of who God is and who we are in Him.

A Prayer for 2022 and Beyond

As we stand at the beginning of this new year, my prayer is that we would all dare to believe that God is better than we think. May this belief transform the way we live, love, and serve. May it shape the way we see ourselves, our families, and our communities.

This is the prayer I have for my own soul. It’s the prayer I have for my wife, my daughters, my son. And it’s the prayer I have for you, dear friends.

May we live in the light of God’s limitless goodness. May we rest in the truth that He is compassionate and kind. And may our lives reflect the abundant love of the One who is always better than we dared to imagine.

Let’s continue now in a time of prayer.
