Who are you? That's the question they demanded an answer for. They couldn't make heads or tail of him. They were fearful of who he might be. And they were threatened by who he claimed to be. They were unable to see him for who he really was. Who are you? Is the question. Sometimes our hearts are just not ready to listen to Jesus, his answer to that question. Sometimes lies are blinding us to who he is, lies that fuel our fears, that feed our pride, lies that have painted the face of God with our own anxieties, lies, that keep us from receiving the healing that awaits. If we would only see what then was God to do. Seeing humanity slide into the deceit of darkness, what was he to do? He came, he came in love and showed us the way of love, self giving radically forgiving, co suffering love. So Jesus said, when you have lifted up the Son of Man on the cross, then you will understand that I am he. I do nothing on my own, but say only what the Father has taught me. When we look at the one that we have lifted up on the cross, we will see the answer to that question, Who are you? We will see what the woman caught in adultery saw the one who stoops down to write something new from the dust of our lives. The one who does not condemn us, for we are already condemned. We see the one who takes away the sin of the world, the one who has included us into the life that he shares with his Father. We see him and the prayer of my own heart today is that I will hear Jesus' answer to that question. Who are you? For I'll see you in the cross. Love. That's who you are. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be some
You are loved!
