Simple and Sublime Words of Life
Exodus 23, 24, Psalm 14, and Acts 5
Our message is so simple and it can’t be stopped. Ananias and Sapphira got the wrong message. The high council and the religious leaders got the wrong message. So many people today continue to get the wrong message.
Ananias and Sapphira thought that the message was a way of getting position and prominence. They wanted to manipulate the message to get something. They didn’t sell their land to give. They sold their land to get. They got the wrong message.
The religious leaders wanted to stop the message from being heard. They saw the message as a threat to their position and their control over the people. They got the wrong message too.
The same goes for many of us today, inside and outside of the church. The message is easily manipulated and thwarted and misunderstood. But in today’s reading we learn that this message can’t be more simple than it is. Did you catch it in verse 20? An angel appears to Peter and John and tells them:
Go to the Temple and give the people this message of life! (Acts 5:20 NLT)
It’s that simple. The message is life! Jesus says:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (Jn 10:10 ESV)
Our message, that often gets missed by so many, is a simple message of life.
In him was life, and the life was the light of men. (Jn 1:4 ESV)
That’s how simple it is. It’s not power, prestige, prominence or political gain. It’s life in him. It’s a simple message of life where there was once death. Amongst the twisted manipulations of the human heart comes God’s simple message of life, for you and me. It’s a message as simple and sublime as you could ever hope it to be.
Don’t miss it. Hear well the message of life. Enter into his life, offered to you, through Christ, today.
You are loved!
