Go Deep
Genesis 15 - 17 and Luke 6
Go deep. Sink your roots deep down into God’s love to make you strong.
Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. (Eph 3:17 NLT)
In today’s reading, Jesus is giving us the same word for the same result. He tells us about that person who comes to him, listens to his teaching, and then follows it. That person is like the person who builds a house. He digs deep, laying a foundation on a solid rock, so that when floodwaters rise and break against that house, it will stand firm, because it is well-built.
The floodwaters do rise. They do break against our house. But He has enabled us, now, to come to him, listen to him, and follow him. When we do that we go deep.
For 2018, sink your roots deep down into God’s love. It starts by coming to him.
Come to him in his word each and every day. Listen to his teaching. Build your life on the deep foundation of Christ himself. Follow Him, obeying all that he’s asked you to do. Then, when the floodwaters rise and break against that house, you’ll be strong in the storm.
He invites us to go deep. Has he put a word on your heart? Come to him. Listen to what he’s saying, and follow.
You are loved!
