"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." Peter is quoting these words and speaking specifically to leaders of the church, to the "Elders." To these leaders, he says, "lead, but lead with humility, with a heart to serve, lead like our great Shepherd," who was and is always humble. When you try to lead God's people in any other way than in the way of humility, you'll be in opposition to God. Your message must match your manner. You must be humble as our Lord is humble.
And the call to a life of humility is not just for church leaders, it's for all we will live in the way of Jesus and the grace of Jesus. If we have a heart to humbly serve in whatever God has given you to do. Are you a business person? Do your business with a servant heart? And with humility? Are you a tradesperson? Do your work with servant hearted humility? Are you an educator, teach with a servant's heart and be humble. We are all invited to join God in His way, his humble way. And when we do that, we will know His grace. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble amen
