Sometimes God needs reminding. At least that's what the Psalmist seems to think. Sometimes things are so wrong, so backwards, so violent, so evil, that God needs to be reminded, reminded of who we are, and what needs to be done. We are his children. And this is his idea, not ours. He made us his own, and he is God, not us. And violence and destruction and persecution and all that is wrong in this world. Well, it's going to be up to him to do something about it. Sometimes God needs to be reminded. At least that's what the psalmist says. verse 2, Oh, God, why have you rejected us so long? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your own pasture? Remember, that we are the people you chose long ago. And remember, Jerusalem, your home here on Earth, walk through the awful ruins of the city, see how the enemy has destroyed your sanctuary. Sometimes God needs to be reminded. And when we remind God, we also remind ourselves of who we are, that we do belong to God, and that he is the only one that can bring this whole thing around and made right again. And we're also reminded that as his children, we have a role to play. We are invited to participate with him in ways of justice and love in this world. So go ahead and remind God and be reminded yourself while you're at it, and listen for his voice and obey what he asks you to do. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. And that's the prayer that I have for you. Amen.
You are loved!
