TODAY'S EPISODE:
Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, dear ones. Today marks Day 65 in our journey through the Bible, as we dive into the heart of Deuteronomy chapters one and two, and explore the rich narratives of Mark chapter 12. I'm your host, Hunter, your brother and Bible reading coach, here to guide you as we bask in the transformative power of God's love.
In today's episode, Moses speaks to the Israelites, recounting their journey and God's promises, as they stand at the threshold of the Promised Land. We'll witness Jesus teaching in parables, challenging religious authorities, and revealing profound truths of love and commitment to God and each other. Through these scriptures, we are reminded of our ultimate belonging to God, as we navigate the worldly traps of money, politics, and power.
Join us in this sacred time of reflection and prayer, as we give our lives back to God and discover our truest joy. Together, let's walk forward in Christ's love, on this day of Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Let's embrace this journey, knowing we are deeply loved by God. Welcome, and let's dive into today's word.
TODAY'S DEVOTION:
They tried to trap Jesus in questions about the two faced idol of money and politics. It's so easy for us to get trapped there, but Jesus won't be trapped by these idols or any other. He calls for them to show him a coin. Whose picture? Whose title are stamped on it? He asked. Caesar's, they replied.
Well, Jesus said, give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God. The coin belongs to Caesar, but there's something else that belongs to God. What is it? Jesus wants you to know that you belong to him, that God has put his imprint, his image on you. Therefore, you belong to him. The catechism asks, what is our only hope in life and death? The answer is we are not our own, but belong to God. So let there be no doubt, you are God's. You are his children. You are family.
There's no getting out of it, and you're not to blame for it. It was all God. Give to God what belongs to him. So our duty is to return back to the Lord all that is his, and that would be us. That's right. And if we do that, and when we do that, when we participate with him, we can avoid the traps and the idols of this world, including the idols of money and politics and power. And instead, we can find our truest life, our freest life, our most joyful life in him. As I give my life to him, I find my truest self, my truest joy.
So let's return to God what's his. Give yourself to him. Paul said this in one of his letters. Your real life is hidden with God in Christ. This is the truest thing about you. This is the truth of your being, that you are in him. He made this so.
So now let us begin to discover what it is to live it out, to walk with him. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so.
TODAY'S PRAYERS:
Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.
Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen
And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen.
