HE’S INVESTED IN YOU
Today’s reading is Matthew 23 – 25. We are reading from the New Living Translation.
God has invested in you and me. Some will receive the investment and they will multiply it. But we can refuse the investment. We can insist on seeing God as a harsh man. And for those who do, they will, tragically, receive the results. A life invested only in the self – self-indulgent, and self-directed – will have no eternal consequence, other than our own destruction and demise. It will result in a life apart from God.
But God has invested in our lives. When we recognize that all we have is a gift from God, intended not for us, but for Him and others, than we receive far more than we can ever have imagined. If you try to save your life you will lose it. But if you lose your life for Christ and his kingdom, than you will save it. This outward God-focused life, expresses itself in selfless, unconscious acts of mercy, love, and kindness to those in need, in this broken world. Those who are rewarded by God in this story seem oblivious to the impact that they are having on their world. That’s because they are not obsessed with themselves. Their attention is focussed on the One who has invested his very life into them. It’s his life in them that is doing all of these works of love, mercy, and justice. This is the God-focused life of Christ in you. And it’s what we are called to live in today.
Receive the investment that he has made in you. He has called you by name and come to live in you. Determine, by his grace to live with your eye focussed on him. The results will be beyond what you could ask for or imagine.
You are loved!
